Today I wanted to share with you some of my favourite Pinterest Finds! Maybe you can get some inspiration. :)

I think this is simple outfit, but at the same time it’s not! If you see, what I see. LOL. Love that skirt.

This skirt is so cute! This blogger, turned her dress into a skirt. Personally I love that dress, but a skirt can be worn much more, you get more use out of it.

I really wish I had this skirt with all those colours. I’ve made it a goal to make this skirt one day! It will be hard, but I can do it!!

If you know me, I’m a ruffles kind of girl. I truly love this skirt. Another goal to make!!

And last but not least! Isnt’ this skirt so cute! Love everything about it. Want!

Now go out, buy some fabric, find a seamstress or make something yourself. Alternatively, shop online for similar products. Or even more alternatively, shop your own closet for similar things you forgot you even had!

A Renewal of Your Mind: Choose Modesty

A few weeks ago I came across this paragraph and I loved it. For our FB group page members, I’ve shared this paragraph with you already but I’ve expanded on my thoughts here. The paragraph inspired me to write a little something, so here it is:

"The war for holiness and the war against worldliness does not begin in the mall or the magazines or the walk-in closet. It begins in the mind. Paul writes, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Your mind, your heart, your intentions and your motivations determine your wardrobe." - unsure

I loved this because frankly it’s the truth, its true magazines, malls, media can all be a major influence in our society today, but truthfully the fight does not lie there alone, it lies in what WE CHOOSE to allow to enter our minds and hearts. If we have allowed God to transform our Minds, as Paul states, all of that will have no influence on us. If in our hearts and minds it is settled that we love God and want to please Him, then when magazines, media etc., tell us that immodesty is what is hip and new, we will not be moved, because we have made it up in our minds to serve Christ and anything that doesn't please him, suddenly disgusts us. I don’t know If you felt that way before, but when I see things that don’t please God, it just makes me want to run away, and not take part of those things, even if I didn’t initiate them! His love and his strength are our strength to not give in to the ways of this world.

Some people say that what really matters is inside the heart and not how we dress outwardly, now this is a whole other post, which I will get too, but let me share a verses that goes to show that what is in our heart will truly show externally too.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart, brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks” – Luke 6:45

Of course, this verse it talking about Speaking, but it could also be applied to our conduct as a whole. If we have good treasure (God’s word) inside of us, than we will be a testimony to others of that by how we dress, speak and act. So doesn't it make the quote above make more sense that of what is in our heart we will dress on the outside?? If in our heart and minds and with our INTENTIONS we want to please God, we will dress accordingly, if we don’t, than we won’t. So I guess what I’m trying to say is yes, magazines, media, etc., have a big influence in our society today, but WE CAN MAKE THE CHOICE to choose Modesty instead of nakedness (which is what we see much of, especially during the heat season). If our heart is sensible to Gods word, we will see that his word bane’s nakedness! We will see that the ways, fashions of this world are not his ways. Our minds are renewed by HIM to not think anymore as was past, but to think in accordance to his Word. Examine the intentions and motivations of your heart for dressing the way you do, are they in accordance to God’s word or are you conforming to the World’s intentions (which are all sinful in nature; vanity, ostentatiousness, sexuality, lustfulness – temporary empty pleasures)? I encourage all of the newcomers to Christ to let the Lord work on your heart and mind to renew it each passing day, that we may never go back to our old ways and always seek HIS WAYS. That our hearts always be sensible to God’s word and to what he requires of us. It’s true, it’s not easy to have your mindset changed completely – when you’ve been living a certain way for so long, but just allow the Lord to do it, come to him with an open heart and he will do the rest. Let go and let God. Do not be conformed to this World, Choose Modesty.

The Revamped Jean Skirt

Hi ladies, I'm very excited to share with you my latest creation. It took me a few days to finish, mainly because of lack of time, but finally, I bring you this short Tutorial.

I must say I got my inspiration from Pinterest! I saw a jean skirt revamped similarly but different! Lol….If you haven’t joined The Modesty Walk on Pinterest, it’s very easy to here.

This is a really simple project, very easy! I had the old jean skirt which fit me just a tad bit shorter than my norm, so I thought, why not use this for a revamping project!

All you need is:

1) an old jean skirt or a thrifted short jean skirt
2) Ruffles material
3) Needle and thread or in turn a sewing machine

Steps:

1) I laid the skirt out on a flat surface

2) I decide where I wanted the ruffles to start on the skirt. I felt that half of the skirt looked best. Where you start the ruffles really depends on your taste! Measure how much material you will need to go around and the length you perfer as well. Cut the material accordingly leaving a little extra on the closing side for mistake wiggleroom and the ruffle effect. Instead of cutting two pieces (one for back and one for front) I just cut one big piece so the closure would be on one side only.

3) Using pins, secure the ruffle piece into place stretching it out as you pin.

4) Start sewing the ruffle piece on! I love this material, because no hemming at the bottom is required (unless you are a perfectionist!) because the ruffles cover it! On the side, instead of closing it up completely I just stitched in the middle to create more of a ruffle effect. The lovely part of this material is that it allows for mistakes, it is very forgiving!

5) I added a flower, because I love little details like that, so it’s up to you if you want to do same! To figure out how to make the flower, you can watch the youtube video from a previous tutorial post here! For the flower I used 3 ruffles in height x 24cm in length to do this size.

And now rejoice at your finished creation! Yay!

Are You A Gifted Artisan?

And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. So you shall speak to all who are gifted artisans, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest.” Exodus 28:3-4

Just wanted to share this thought with you all.

You know how sometimes it’s so hard to buy decent and modest clothing? Well maybe it’s your fault. Yup I said it, maybe it’s your fault. Or wait, maybe it’s my fault?! (still figuring that one out!) I read this scripture and thought, if all the people who God has given the “spirit of wisdom” in such matters to make garments for the priest of the grace dispensation (all of us!) “you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people" 1 Peter 2:9, than maybe we could find more decent clothing.

I guess what I wanted to say with this post is that, if God has given you wisdom (talent) in something, even something simple as sewing (or anything for that matter), that that, could also be used for his glory! So go ahead, do it, I encourage you to get motivated and bless the people of God with the talent he has given to you. Make modest clothing so that “the priest can have holy garments for glory and for beauty”. So that more and more modest clothing can be readily available and we can represent the Most High with glory and beauty!!! You could be a very essential part in the body of Christ. God gives many different talents, just because yours may not be behind a pulpit, does not make it less important. Aaron was the priest (the one behind the pulpit), but in order for his ministry to be succesful, he needed to have a “gifted artisan”(the one not on the pulpit) in his life, to create the garments in accordance to God’s word to enable him to present himself in the holy place!

Something to think about!

And as I promised last week, tomorrow will be Tutorial Thursday. (I hope, keep your fingers crossed!)

Modest Nursing Scrubs

You may remember my friend Melush (Melissa) from an interview a few weeks back. Well this time, I caught her in her nursing scrubs! Love how she is making a difference in her world by standing out in her profession. Who said you can’t work in a skirt?!?! Where there’s a will there is a way. Melissa tells me that she bought the uniform as pants and her lovely grandmother turned them into a skirt. She also says that she doesn’t find it difficult to run around in the skirt. For added modesty she will wear leggings under the skirt in case it rises as she runs to assist a convalescing patient. Cute eh?!

Interview with Becky

Hello,

So this week we interviewed with Becky! She is a lovely girl, very dear to my heart, who has served with me in the music ministry for about 5 years. Becky grew up in church and has, thank God, remained in this path to this day. Becky is currently studying to be a lovely Nurse. We asked Becky to answer a few questions regarding her modesty walk with God during her years. Here’s what she had to say.

1. When you think of Modesty what comes to your mind?

When I think of modesty the first thing that comes to mind is holiness (separation of the world for God), being recognized, being and looking different from those outside of our faith.

2. Did you ever struggle with modesty?

I can’t really say that I’ve struggled with it because my whole life I have been brought up to dress in a modest way. My mom would always come with me when I wanted new clothes, and when I came across something immodest we would both try to see if there was a way of making it modest. The only struggle I’ve had with modesty is finding long skirts or a modest top, and always having to make sure our shirts don’t go down. Even though we’ve had minor struggles, we've definitely found creative ways to make immodest clothes modest! For example, when a skirt/dress is too short, I just add a piece of fabric to the bottom. I think this makes the outfit unique and beautiful. Another thing I do to stay modest is that if there is a possibility that my tank top or shirt will come lower then I’d want it to, I just pin it to my bra strap so that it’s secured in place. It’s actually a good idea because everything is secured and nothing that you wouldn’t want others to see, is seen! I’m comfortable, and I know that I won’t be worrying about showing anything accidently if I bend down he-he.

3. What inspires you to keep dressing Modestly?

My inspiration for dressing modestly is knowing that foremost I am pleasing God and also making a difference in the world we live in today. Standing out for God is spiritually rewarding.

4. What advice would you give with those struggling with Modesty?

The advice I can give for those who struggle with modesty is that at the end of everything, dressing in a modest way is all worth it. You receive respect, even from those who don’t even understand the biblical principles and importance of dressing that way. Modesty gives you a sense of authority as a woman and self-control. When you dress modest, you also show regard for your neighbour who otherwise, would feel uncomfortable around you because you are dressed inappropriate, that they don’t even know where to look! One saying I’ve heard before is “you are what you dress”, and that saying has a lot of truth. If you want people to take you seriously and like you for the person you truly are, and not for what your body is, then dress modestly. I think that most importantly, we represent Jesus in our modest ways, yes even through our wardrobe. I believe that we represent the God we serve even in the way we dress.

We thank Becky for sharing her thoughts with us. Below are a few pictures that show how Becky wore different outfits more modestly.

(sorry the pics are not too clear)

Here Becky added the brown material to the hem to make this dress longer.

Here Becky wore a "short dress" as a long shirt! And of course her tank top was pinned into place. She's an expert at safetypinning!

Great Standards

A long time ago I read about this sign being posted outside a Jewish synagogue and always wanted to find a picture of it! At the time I did Google searches to no avail as I wanted to include it as part of the book I wrote. It was until recently that I came across this picture! I find it so interesting. It’s re-assuring to know that the Orthodox Jewish people follow the standards of modesty to this day. It also shows that our interpretation of scripture with respect to the standards of modesty are correct and aren’t really some crazy rules recently made up by man. These principles were passed on to God’s people since the beginning and It’s lovely that modesty hasn't died out considering the decay of morality in the last century. It’s great to know that some people still stand strong on their convictions and foundations that God has placed for us for a successful Christian walk.

1 Peter 3:5 – “ For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves”

Description of photo
-sign posted in an Orthodox Jewish district of Jerusalem provides an interesting definition of modesty for women’s dress:” Passage permitted ‘only’ to women dressed modestly! Long dress, lower than knee length (no slacks).Long sleeves, beyond elbow length. Closed Neckline”(National Geographic, July 1985, p. 30).
